General Manager Australia, Scoot
Seeking fame and fortune Jared left school at age 16 on the fastest route to failure known to mankind. Trying to make a living playing rock ‘n’ roll in small town New Zealand meant he learnt a few street smarts at an early age. He learned that he could easily talk his way into and out of trouble, that taking risks built resilience and if it didn’t kill you it likely made you stronger (or hungry).
Life Take Two began at the bottom of the airline industry in 2010 at Auckland Airport as a baggage handler where Jared quickly discovered he loved being the buzz of travellers and aircraft. From airside operations he moved into private charter operations, commercial operations and eventually to helicopters in Sydney where he wound up in sales. His ability to pitch great ideas, set up sales and close the deal took him to an e-commerce company where he managed the exponential growth of their wholesale travel division – now one of the largest online marketplaces in the world.
He is currently the Australian GM of Scoot Airlines tasked with growing the little airline that could, bringing about innovation and digital adoption in a seriously risk-averse industry.
Jared reckons he has learnt the difference between a failure you can brush of and recover quickly from and the life-defining failures you should worry about. His favourite recreation is diving with sharks so that’s a very useful distinction to have sorted.
